We are an open and caring congregation, outwardly involved, as a faithful Christian witness to God's love.

Observing LENT in the Wendell Community
The beginning of March is also the beginning of Lent. The community-wide Lenten lunches on each Wednesday during Lent are sponsored by the Wendell Council of Churches, Brief devotions and lunch provided by the individual churches begin at 12:15 p.m. at the Methodist Church on the corner of Main & Wendell Blvd. Covenant's tune to serve lunch in on March 29th. During Holy Week the luncheons move to Wendell Christian Church on Mattox St. and are held daily Monday, April 10 - Good Friday April 13. Covenant serves lunch on April 13 of Holy Week.

Literacy Training  - If you did not sign up to help youngsters with reading skills, it is not too late. The staff will do individual training. Hours to work with the children are Monday through Friday from 12:05 to 1:35 and/or 2:05 to 3:35 p.m. You do not have to commit to every day - you set your own schedule. First step: Register at the school during regular hours, have a valid drivers license and pass a routine criminal background check. If you have questions contact Annette Kirk (akirk0624@gmail.com) or Mike Smithson (msmithson@centurylink.net).

Backpack Buddy Program - What if?? What if you could only find a part time job paying less than minimum wage? No insurance? What if your child went to school on an empty stomach because you couldn't afford cereal and you knew they would get a morning meal there as well as lunch. Supper might be pretty meager but at least they had two nourishing meals a day. Then comes Saturday. And Sunday. No school breakfast or lunch. What if your child came home with packages of mac & cheese, small cans of soup, crackers and other items to help through the weekend. Would you feel God's love? Jesus said love your neighbor, feed my sheep. What if we did?? Items should be non-perishable and light enough for a child's backpack. Suggestions are on the flier on the bulletin boards and the bin for contributions is in the copy room.
Pennies for Hunger!
